Pen on Business Card

I seriously hope David Chase is heading somewhere with the Sopranos. I don't care if its rock bottom for Tony either. Every episode is becoming this constant grating of self-deception and pathological depravity infused with juxtaposed irony. In my mind, each episode is Tony one step closer to approximated redemption; you pick the form. Does it get any worse than Tony idolizing his fathers mistress and then lying to his friends about how great she was?

Mebbe its Buscemi's style of direction. When he does an episode scenes are filmed in tight, contained blocks with little fluidity between segment other than the assumed "next step in the narrative." Heck, I kinda think this is how Buscemi acts: interjection on top of interjection. Throw in characters you care about and some heavy moral deconstruction and it makes for a dark, sardonic experience.

But onwards...

I'm watching through Band of Brothers again. Mebbe I'm going through a WW2 kick or something as I'm also downloading Call of Duty right now. It's an amazing series and a tribute to both HBO and Television for what can be done "on the small screen." I wonder if it'd be profitable to do a constant series, twice a year, telling the history of one of our military units, like the Fourth Calvary or the 7th Marines at Guadalcanal. But I'd like to see it like Band of Brothers, following the men from boot camp to the end of the war. Each day we loose more and more WW2 vets and I think we're presented with a very unique opportunity to record their experiences with active visual media. I almost feel we have a responsibility to do so.

Just as long as Oliver Stone doesn't have anything to do with it and I'll be happy.
