Dirt Of Your Shoulder

It was a decent weekend for sports. The Tigers had their undefeated streak broken and dropped to 4-1, but then won their game yesterday vs. the Twins so they're 5-1 and are on top of their division. Its rather amazing, especially since they destroyed a Toronto team many folks said would be really strong this year.

The Redwings dropped to the Preds. What a game; the Preds played their hearts out and I give them props. Talked to Sweet and we Michigan/Detroit expats will be having some NHL playoff parties in later rounds of the playoffs; and yes I'm assuming the Wings will advance to play for the Cup. The Preds got talent but don't have the necessary maturity to take the Wings.

And man, how 'bout that Danny Ortiz homer in extra innings to win it for the Sox? Boy, what I wouldn't have given to be in Fenway when that happened.

The Kings beat the Lakers, which made me very happy. I'm a transplant Kings fan when I moved to Cali. I've had many a good time in Arco Arena, inluding 2 Billy Graham crusades and a Pumpkins concert.

Of course last night was another episode of The Sopranos. I must say I think David Chase really packed it full of one liners "Vito! Where the #$%# is my Tupperware?" - Paulie & Christopher to Tony Blendetto getting stressed about his massage board exams: "Fear knocked a the door, faith answered, no one was there"

We had a bit of a disagreement over whether or not Carmela was actually using sex with Anthony Jr.'s guidance counselor, wait, strike that, refraining from having sex with AJ's guidance counselor to pressure said counselor into getting Anthony's grade raised. I think it was purely coincidental and that she split because she was stressed and wigged out. Ryan & Mesh felt differently but I think they're baised, if you get my meaning.

Think we've found new office space to move into. Its in St. Elmo. Jeff & I are on our way over ot check it out in 30 minutes.

And finally I want to brag a bit on my brother-in-law Nathan. He's an officer in the marine corp and is currently training at Paris Island as we speak. Parents got him a digital camera for Christmas, so April and I are lucky enough to get pics from him every now and then. This one is my favorite thus far. Those are old Iraqi T-62's they're shooting at in the background, imported from the first Gulf War.

Nathan tells me he's got a good shot at making infantry for his job. I think he said his other pics were low altitude air defense, artillery, and tanks. He wants infantry since, well, tanks don't get deployed all that often. Odds are he'll head over to Iraq if he gets infantry and folks tell him he's got a good shot. It's rather intense to think about.

He also bought a new truck, which I told him was a good move since as a representative of our country he has the responsiblity to look as dang good as possible. He's giving April and I his old truck, which was really dang cool of him to do. April & I are heading up to visit him for family day in a month. I'm hoping I'll get to fire a .50 caliber much like the one my dad did in Nam.

My giddiness about all that is probably gonna wig out all my hipster friends, but whatever.

I don't think Carmela was being deliberately manipulative. I don't think she's clever enough for that. But I do think she was being manipulative, and unconscious manipulation is the worst kind. From the episode, it was obvious that she was thinking about A.J. the entire time. She was using the guy without even meaning to, because she doesn't know how not to. It's all she knows how to do. She's been using Tony for more than a quarter century. Of course she's going to do the same to everyone she meets.

But I do agree with one thing: firing .50 caliber ammunition at wasted tanks is dang cool.

Lang's brother-in-law, Chip, is applying for OCS in the Army. He want's to make a career out of it... Weird, huh?

Officer in the Corps? If he's doing that he's at Quantico, VA not Paris Island, S.C. Paris Island is for grunts, not officers. Just thought I'd clarify.

I don't know why it posted three times...

Spoon, unless my brother-in-law is lying, officers sometimes train at Paris Island along with Quantico.

Tonight's score: Predators 3, Red Wings zip, zero, nada, zilch.

Ryan, ok, so WHY is unconcious manipulation the worst kind? I'm not disagreeing with your other thoughts, in fact I agree, but I have a hard time seeing how unconcious manipulation is somehow, in an objective sense, worse than concious manipulation. Do you have a proof text for that?

I prefer conscious manipulation because then I get to curl my fingers and cackle menacingly.
