Catacombs, Covenant, & The Drone

Last night Me, Mesh, and Rye-Dawg cruised up to Catacombs to celebrate the inaguration of the new foozeball table & get in a little hall-ball. It was, of course, a rip-roaring good time. Complete with numerous "woahs!" and soccer-ball shots on bare skin, in fact, the left side of my paunch is still stinging from where Spoon nailed me.

Only dissapointing thing was the lack of prefunctory naked run-throughs on first bellz. What's this world coming to? oh ya, litigious, puritanical, and un-Christ like attitudes towards, well, a great number of things. Of course, my attitude may change when I have kids. Or, I may plan on some naked run throughs on first Bellz with my boys. Wouldn't that be something? 2 generations of streaking Catacombian nude galoots. Oh, the glory.

So Tyler n' crew have another edition of The Drone out, though they haven't put it up on their site yet. Now I understand The Drone isn't just Mr. Grisham, but includes other people who still attend Covenant. I guess I feel though that one is given the right to satirically cut in the style in which the Drone does once one is an active participant in the targeted institution. For example, I'm presbyterian & reformed which I feel gives me a bit more liberty and a bit more weight in my critiques of said Christian tradition. Mr. Grisham doesn't even attend Covenant anymore. I have a hard time seeing him as anymore than just, to borrow a line from Calvin and Hobbes, a "philistine on the sidewalk" throwing stones. Of course, The Drone isn't written by just Grisham, but he is the driving force behind it. Maybe he should, I dunno, make fun of St. Elmo or something. At least he lives there, on Shauff Street. Go down St. Elmo avenue, take a right on 54th, then a quick left on Shauff. His is the second on the right.

And finally, Covenant has got a nice new website up, more or less. It's also got some great arial shots of the college for your desktop taken by Matt MacLellan. This one here is my current desktop. Do take note though, of the following picture. Note the circled blue car. Yes, that is Lang's famous Quantum, given to him by Jeff Cross (my boss), then borrowed by Chip Millette and eventually passed on to Morris Yaegashi. Morris left the quantum in that parking lot, in that spot, for more than a year and a half. It was never towed. It never moved until Neal Howard incorporated it into his particular ethos.

Actually, Josiah, The Q was not given to Lang by Jeff. He purchased it for $500. It was Lang's reliable and hideous car for 2 years, and he only spent $35 on parts the entire time he had it. Years later, Neal Howard bought it from Lang for $1 and days later Warren Trice drove it to and from work for 3 weeks when his car broke down. I had a love-hate relationship with that ugly piece of junk. May it rest in peace.

Peace? You mean "pieces" I think, no?

Tyler doesn't go to Covenant anymore? Wasn't he going earlier this semester? What happened?

I'm not sure who he is, but I think we may have had NT Pauline Epistles together. Back then he had longish blond hair and he always wore this grey zip-up emo jacket with two white stripes down each sleve.

When I saw him at Covenant the other day he was wearing all black--and had died his hair black.

Is this Tyler Grisham, or am I thinking of someone entirely different?

I think you're thinking of someone different. Tyler hasn't gone to Covenant this whole year.

And Josiah, I don't think that paragraph about the Drone made any sense. But then again, I only got 4 hours of sleep last night (working on the Windbag, which for some bizarre reason the publishing company refuses to print on Thursdays).

And you can come through first belz naked anytime you want. We'll have the belts waiting for you. Just don't trip over Robert and Beth on the way in.

Josiah, the best part about the new Covenant website is their section about all the exciting student clubs and organizations that one can involve himself with while a student at Covenant. The funny thing is, the page they link to existed at least five years ago when I was considering Covenant. I remember feeling a little lied to when I showed up at Covenant and found that the "evangelism club" consisted of, well, that Jamin guy with the red beard. Well they have "updated" their site and they are still pretty enthusiastic about boasting the existence of "The Vicious Circle" which I dont think existed at all the whole time I was at Covenant. Hope things are going well. I check the blog a lot. See you at the end of the summer.

The Vicious Circle is "currently" reading Shusako Endo.

Josiah, we seriously need to tell the whoever runs the Covenant website server that we are the student leaders of the Vicious Circle. Then we can send them new titles we're "reading" each month. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, for example.

My neighbor while I was in the student apartments claimed to be a part of the Vicious Circle. Perhaps this was all part of the conspiracy.

Tad Evearitt does the web page at school. You should let him know mesh. really.
