Average Joe == Roe Family Expletives

Ya, I know, it's dumb I got into Average Joe, but I finally had to pick a reality TV show.

And I just wanna say it, Melena, or however you spell her name, is dumb, much like the guy she picked. Yes, dumb. Unintelligent. Stupid. Of course she picked the pretty boy airhead, 'cause well, she's a pretty airhead herself. She went with comfort and familiarity, and for her it just happens to be, well, a stupid person.

That Adam Mesh guy rules.

There, now it's public, you can rip on me.

I give you a lot of credit for coming out. It really started off as a great show. Penny and I have been watching it religiously since the beginning.

And I agree. Melena and Jason are good together, Adam is in a lot of ways too good for her. Ah well.

And of course the question that has been on my mind: Are Adam and Mesh related?

I really became interested in this show, as much as I resisted it at first. It was just great television no matter how you slice it. Having said that I am absolutely disgusted and very surprised out the outcome. Although, I suppose I should have known better than to think that Adam would win. I wanted Adam to just be mean for once in his life when she sent him onto that damn bus! What a completely shallow moron Melana is. I'm glad she picked Jason, a fellow moron, because Adam is way too good for her. Way too good. I was very impressed with the things Adam did for Melana on their final dates, but I guess it just goes to show that, ultimately, looks rule everything as extremely sad and depressing as that is. Hopefully there are some girls out there who fell in love with who Adam is as a result of seeing him on this show, and he will get a girl who knows a good thing when she sees it.

The Official Aaron Mesh Statement on Whether He Is Related To That Guy on Average Joe:

"I actually have no idea. My family only shortened our name from Meshenberg to Mesh about 90 years ago, after emmigrating from Russia. My grandfather lived in New York as a little boy, and I'm pretty sure much of his extended family did as well, including some uncles. The last name Mesh is exceedingly rare (we aren't even listed on most government surname databases), so there's a decent chance we share some genes. Although I would have dumped that whore Melana."

I still cant figure out why Melena did it (besides the obvious fact that she and Jason are perfect for each other).

Think about it: she could have chosen Adam, and become America's hottie who loves the Average Joe. Even if she broke up with Adam a few weeks later, America would love her. Millions would then pay to see her in some cheesy movie, or on some after-school special. She would get all sorts of contracts, etc.

But instead, she's just the girl who went for looks over personality. No big deal. Buh-bye.

Oh well, I guess she's not as shrewd as all that.

Posted by: Greg at December 9, 2003 11:20 AM

who said she went for looks over personality? the guy she picked happened to look better, but you all said it, Jason os more on Malena's level, intellectually. And the fact that she is more attracted to him and can relate more to his upbringing is another bonus for her and Jason. If Jason were a royal asshole, then I could see being angry over it, but even though he is no Wall St. trader, he's a nice guy, and arguably has a much more tolerable laugh. He's got himself a hot girl, and Adam will end up with a pretty cute, sucessful intelligent woman and everyone will live happily ever after.

As much as I was in complete shock and disbelief over her choice last night, deep down in my heart Iknew that Melena and Jason were meant to be together.

Did anyone else notice how both of them used the term "Melena/Jason and I's date" (instead of "our date" or "Melena/Jason's and my date) which was completely grammatically incorrect? While Adam seems like a great guy, I can only conclude that M and J are far more suited to be a couple.

Having said that, how do you think the next Average Joe will do viewer wise? Do you think many loyal viewers will be turned off from the concept of this show based on Melena's shallowness?

Posted by: peninah at December 9, 2003 02:05 PM

Yes, I saw the after-the-show commercial for the next show and it looks like the girl is a tramp and they bring the model guys on right away to compete with the average guys. Bringing those pretty boys in is what ruined Average Joe for me.

Posted by: Strow at December 9, 2003 02:41 PM

When it came down to the final two (Adam and Jason) I knew that it was a 'no win' situation; does she go for looks or money.

Even though her choice pretty much defeated the whole concept of the show, it was strangely comforting to see the whole male/female relationship dynamic work as intended.

We all like to think things can work out differently (discovering the inner beauty, etc) but in reality they rarely do. I think she made the least shallow choice possible.

How about this for a new reality show:

10 women vie for the affections of...a BLIND man. Now THAT would be interesting...

Matthew: You don't think she went for looks over personality? I beg to differ, sir:

"The eyes, the face, the smile. How could you deny that?" Scantlin said later in the show, explaining her choice (of Jason).

The fact is Adam put massive amounts of thought and time into his dates with Malena (i.e. - the bar menu, the poem, the flowers, the burning stuffed dog, and generally speaking from his heart). What did Jason do? Nothing. He hung out at his parents house, (why do bronzed shoes fasincate Malena so?) relaxed by the pool, and just generally spent most of his time looking all pouty-like with his little doe eyes at Malena. Big friggin' deal. I hate people.

Posted by: andy at December 9, 2003 03:37 PM

Not that I watched anything more than the final episode, but...

One might argue that Adam did all those things because he could afford to do them. He's loaded. And Jason could afford to hang out as his parents' house, so he did. Also, did anybody else suspect something a little, I dunno, pathetic in all of my fellow Mesh's gifts and creativity? I couldn't help but feel the guy was putting on a show so he could win the girl. I don't suppose there's anything wrong with that, but I can't help wondering if his effort to win undermined his ability to judge whether there was anything in Melana worth winning, other than well-shaped bodily accoutrements. They didn't seem to spend a whole lotta time discussing common interests -- perhaps because he was too busy reading poems and designing menus. Jason, on the other, prettier hand, was more interested in knowing her than winning her, and got both.

This is my devil's advocate argument. Now I will go back to hoping Jason gets hit by a falling anvil.

Posted by: mesh at December 9, 2003 03:47 PM

Mesh: Exactly!

The lesser Mesh became increasingly maudlin as the show progressed. The poem made me surf away...albeit briefly. How can one become so emotionally caught up in someone under such contrived circumstances?

'Wait...CUT...the light wasn't right on that last tounge-kiss. Makeup!'

In addition, I really hope this whole reality TV thing dies 'real soon now.' There is nothing 'real' about it...

Posted by: Skip at December 9, 2003 04:32 PM

I hated seeing Adam get turned down. It seems like he's a really authentic person. I think it's cool he says what he thinks. I thought it was cute when he reached over and rubbed some food off Melena's tooth. I knew when she gave him the autographed picture that it was over between them. Cheerleaders are used to signing autographs and that was a really impersonal gesture,
The only thing that pissed me off was when Adam came to her for the final decision and she was gleaming when she said "the romance is over". Yet all these other guys she let down she acted sad. She could have been a little easier on Adam.

hi all, i started to watch the show god knows why she picked that pick jason!
anyone know if they are still seeing each other?

Posted by: jimmy at March 11, 2004 07:37 AM

For someone who only saw the finale last night, as i live in the Southern Hemisphere. I was disappointed with the outcome - probably because i consider myself a lot like "Adam" - successful at a young age, but average - not over weight or necessarily unattractive average, but just an average guy, who has always found it hard to talk to and meet women.

I really hoped that Malena was going to set things right for the average Joe and prove that beauty is more than skin deep - i suppose that i knew what the outcome would be - i feel for us average Joe's out there and believe that there are many average Joe's out there sharpening their razor blades, as everyone in life would like to think that they could achieve winning over the beauty, but this swings both ways, how many average Joe's are happy to win the heart of an average girl.

Malena - you suck, lets hope there's a bus with "Jason's" name on it - I loved when she said - "I want to move to New York", she picked "Jason" and he loves in bloody "California" - what the??

since all u have decided to attack Malena, i am about to attack the average joes.. could u possibly tell me.. wut did the average joes see in Malena.. other than she was pretty? did she have outstanding qualities? they all fell for looks, all they saw in her was the fact that she was pretty,,, huh i wanna see those average joes with an average girl and i bet they won't fall as fast

Posted by: whocares at March 17, 2004 02:45 AM

Either way Malena would have lost. Had she chosen Adam it would have looked like she only chose him because of his money. Jason is indeed the real Average Joe compared to Adam!
