I Love Joseph Nichols

Thus far I'm a big fan of working at Coptix. Here's one reason why:

I recently hijacked our intranet's mainpage. Tentatively it's meant to be an "announcements" page, but since there are more pressing intranet needs, Joseph (the wizard behind the wonderful piece of software it is) hasn't made an interface for it yet, though the database tables are there and the site will display any info in the database, if, well, there is any.

So I got into the database and have started leaving welcome announcements. It's like my private-co-workers-only blog. A recent one was a suggestion for a company song, "Mandy" by Barry Mannilow, I even put a link to the song up there to its location on my computer on the network.

I have a great deal of respect for folks who are willing to take it to 11. I don't think there's any sortof method with which can tell which person will or will not be someone who will take it to 11. Sure, there are some good indications, but you can never really tell. I mean heck, I'm sure on the playground in gradeschool Napoleon's classmates weren't thinking "oh, hey, you see that short who always gets out first in dodge ball, ya, he's gonna conquer all of Europe and give inspiration to Hegel, who will give inspiration to Marx, who will provide the philosophical underpinnings to Communist Russia, who will later produce the massively popular in France pseudo-lesbian-catholic-schoolgirl duo TaTu." But I digress...

Joseph Nichols is one such "Take It To 11" person. Not only did he embrace my suggestion that "Mandy" henceforth be the Coptix corporate song, he added a great picture of Barry Mannilow to my announcement/post on the intranet, AND made it so everytime you go to the intranet mainpage it automatically starts playing the song! Genius. Sheer Genius.

So here is my public proclamation that Joseph Nichols is a "Take It To 11" type guy. He deserves your respect, and I'm dang lucky to be working with him.
