Really Brought the Room Together

April & I cruised out to the mall yesterday. Picked up a great rug & a lamp. I've decided there's some kinda evolutionary scale or line that all department stores run on. K-Mart & Wal-Mart in terms of quality are near the bottom, though in price they are very very cheap. I think Ross might sit at the bottom of them all. Climbing up from there you get like TJ Maxx & the other innocuous department store minions. I think Target may sit at "the top" in terms of price & apparent quality.

My great grandfather Quintus restored revolutionary war era antiques. When he passed away he left a share of his collection to both my mom & dad (each getting a share a piece, with my mom's other two sisters getting a share each). So I grew up surrounded by these amazingly crafted and restored antique benches, hutches, tables, etc.

So I find most stuff in department stores complete mass-produced crap. Got no character. It's funny that I'd be a snob about this, considering how comfortable I am willing to live with hand-me-down couches or whatever. Consider it the other side of my aesthetic, the "dorm room" side. I guess I need to learn to find some kinda middle ground.

So we scored this rug I really like from Ross. It really brings the room together. We also got a cool floor lamp. Our apartment is feeling less sparse. It's really really bizarre to be married, buying things under this inclination that you've gotta "put the house together" or something. Feels so material, but yet appropriate.

Good Post.

1. Target has the best stuff of this genre.
2. To fill up space in your place, you should buy some cheapo wooden frames, paint them, and put pictures everywhere...Really adds flava to a room..

Also, HIGH things like armoires or bookshelves can add to the homey feeling of a room...Books are a nice decoration by themselves, and say to your guest, "Look, this guy is intelligent..." LOL...
