iTunes Irony
So I ganked iTunes for windows, and my oh my, it's a dream. Rye-Dawgg has a great review of the program here.
I had it upload my entire library (21 gigs), and I had it start playing on shuffle. The first song was ACDC's "Highway to Hell," the next song, I kid you not, was Caedmon's Call's "Thy Mercy." What's even more bizarre, is I had this cool iTunes feature that fades out a song at the end of it into the next song. So it was even more trippy. I had to go have a cigarette afterwards and ponder the status of my soul.
Didn't help that the next song was Pink Floyd's "Vera."
On another musical note, Gillian Welch is playing Rhythym & Brews this Sunday night. Thus far Horner & Mesh have signed on to go also, since Mesh is nigh in love with Gillian Welch. If he goes I think I'm gonna call it Rhythym & Jews. This is probably amusing to no-one but me.

I've been using WinAmp, is it worth switching to iTunes? Seems like everyone is talking iTunes now that it is on Windows, but I don't remember it being that much better when I was using it on Mac OS 9.6

iTunes has always required OSX, IIRC. And yes, it is worth it. Frankly, pretty much any software with music library functions beats out WinAmp in my book. I haven't used WinAmp in years.

yeah - i dig it. i mean, it doesn't have some of the configurability of musicamatch jukebox, but then again it doesn't take up 60 megs of ram and all the processor every time i touch it either. a trade-off i suppose. oh, and buying tunes is way, way, too easy.

I believe iTunes predates OS X, I had been using it for a few years on OS 9.6 before I left my old job (and lost my Mac). I agree that the IIRC connection allowing you to get the music library is a huge advantage, but I was wondering more about functionality.

Andy, that's exactly what I was looking for... you said, "it doesn't take up 60 megs of ram and all the processor every time i touch it "
So it runs pretty light? Winamp isn't bad, but it does soak up a good little bit of the resources, especially on older computers.

Ryan - um... my bad on the IIRC comment.. thought that was the connection type... just realized that was "If I recall".
... backing away from the blog now...
and Quintus, sorry about the triple posting blog spam

yeah - its probably not as light as winamp, but its more like 20megs ram, and just puts a small dent in the processor.
oh, and i'm in for the g.welch show - but geez, rhythm and brews needs to put some security on that online order form. its wide open... posts your credit card number right on the query string. yeesh...

What does that verb 'ganked' mean?
Posted by: Krista at October 23, 2003 10:19 PM
Hmmm. . .I guess I'm going to have to download this thing after all. If its half as good as you all are saying (and hearing Rye-Dawg talk about it this way is pretty amazing to me) then I'm pretty sure I'm going to love it.
Krista,
While I don't believe 'ganked' is an official word (someone help me with that one) it is generally meant as another way of saying borrowed/stolen/used/acquired or some other variant of those words.
Its really quite versatile.

As in 'I ganked that magazine from the dentist's office'?
