The Future?
Tonight I downloaded the new itunes music store for Windows.
My oh my, is it glorious. Ganking music via certain file-sharing programs never really bothered me in the past, but I was never a "volume" downloader, and mostly frequented in bootlegs, rare songs, and the random pop-ditty. Ya, sure, that aint justification, I know. But I'm oh so glad record companies are finally gettin' with the times.
Now not only do you get access to Apple's ridiculously impressive library of music (heck, I found early Whiskeytown songs), but you also get their quality iTunes music player which in my opinion is infinately better than MusicMatch, but also looks a heckuva lot cooler (like most mac things).
Each song costs $.99 too, and you can preview a 30 second clip of anything. Some album's are only 10 bucks also. Plus, you can burn the song all you want, of course as long as you dont resell it or something. It's oh so choice.
Now all I need to do is score me a sweet iPod.

Ahh... the infinite joys of the iTunes store....
As a faithful Mac user, I have been enjoying the iTunes 4 music store since it's launch in late April. I shudder to think how much dough I've dropped so far (with no end in sight) to the tune of 99 cents per song. But it is, oh so, worth it.
And you most definitely need to hook yo' ass up wit an iPod - very sweet.

I'm saving for an ipod too - although I'm not sure I'll ever get there!

How does the iTunes player stack up against winamp? Also, is it possible to play the songs with anything other than the iTunes player? I looked on the iTunes web site and couldn't find any of that info.

the iTunes store uses AAC (Advanced Audio Coding), which is better than MP3 (higher quality, smaller files), so, anything you buy at the iTunes store cant be played on another type of player, but I don't know why in the world you would want to do that. the program does it all, from housing the music store in the iTunes window like a browser, organizing your music library, and internet radio. It's so good Apple used its interface as the backbone of it's new Finder (Mac's equivalent to Windows Explorer)
I havent touched my CDs since I uploaded all of them into my Mac a couple of months ago--they're under the couch colecting dust. And all of the new music I have is from iTunes. I have a nifty little bike adapter for my ipod case, so when I leave for class in the morning, I clip my iPod onto the handlebars. When I drive, I play it over the car's system, and I have the dock connected to my home stereo. It is truly the coolest gadget I have ever onwed.
Those of you in the market for a new computer, do yourself a favor and check out the Mac. i never would have if someone had not suggested it to me.

I jsut realized that since you are using iTunes for windows (I don't know why that didn't register the first time), the things I just posted might not apply, sorry.
