Books n' Coffee
Dr. Green from Covenant College asked me to pass this one to all y'all in the Chattanooga area.
Every month Covenant College and Suntrust Bank do this thing called "Books n' Coffee" where they get together somewhere 'round town and bring in a professor or scholar to do a public review of some recently release book. Discussion ensues. Good times good thoughts (mostly). They've brought in people from all over the southeast, and every one I've ever gone too has been really really interesting.
Anyways, the next one is on October 14 at 7:30 at The Chattanooga Theatre Center. Dr. Michael Woodward (from McCallie) will be speaking on "The War Against the Bill of Rights and the Gathering Resistance" by Nat Hentoff. There will be free coffee and grub and whatnot. From what I can tell (I haven't read the book) from what I have read of some of Hentoff's articles, this should be a really good discussion on current civil rights issues such as the Patriot Act etc., and the somewhat un-easy alliance that is forming between usually diametrically opposed camps against certain activities of the current administration.
Anyways, if you live in Chatty, I encourage you to go. You can find more info here.

Joel and I went to one of those earlier this year at Club Fathom, and it was really interesting. Definitely worth checking out, especially if you're into whatever topic is being discussed.
