9/11
Today's the 2 year anniversary of 9/11. I was reading this article on MSNBC which asks the question, "why Al-Qaida hasn't struck again?"
Perhaps I'm a bit emotional after watching the memorials and the videos of the attacks, but I can't help but feel that they haven't struck again because we're consistently and constantly hunting them down all across the globe.
Right or wrong, if somebody is even remotely considered to be Al-Qaida, we either capture/arrest them, or bomb them. I can't help but feel this has put some kind of dent into their activities.

That and as much as I don't like them I have to give them a grudging respect in that they're not stupid. These people have an understanding of long term planning and they aren't prone to doing extremely obvious things... until its too late. How long was it between the first WTC bombing and the second? 10 years! I would say they haven't struck again because yeah we've put a dent in their activities (after all their first meeting was in the US way back in the 80s and there's no way that's gonna happen again) but I would also say that this is standard operating procedure for them. They hit and then lay low until everyone gets complacent and lax and then they do it again. If you really think about it, it makes sense.

Oops, I meant 8 years... first WTC bombing was in 1993, the next in 2001... sorry for the typo.

Actually, they seem to be more active today than last year. The reason we haven't heard about more activity is because Bush's "flypaper" strategy is succeeding with flying colors. Basically, by opening a front in Iraq, he's diverted all terrorist attention to the Middle East rather than North America. And they're certainly active over there. On any given day it's more likely than not that a US soldier will be killed, and more likely than not that Al Qaeda or a related group is behind the killing. It sucks, but I'd rather see soldiers than civilians getting waxed.

Good point, provide an easier target and of course they'll have to try and take advantage of it. However, it seems naive to think that just because they have targets in Iraq that they aren't thinking about hitting us here in the US again. They've certainly got enough people to keep up the offensive in Iraq AND plan an attack on the US at the same time. It simply seems that they have established a pattern of striking and then waiting for their target to calm down and then striking again.
