Let Me Tell You About Frustrating
I've been entertaining thoughts of building a solid web portfolio of websites and graphics design. I'm no designer, don't get me wrong, but it'd be really cool to be one, like this guy, who's dang good, and I give him a hard time for not realizing he's got talent. And lets not forget this guy and this guy.
There's also the fact that I'd really like to in the future have my own little gang or company or something of all my friends who for some dang reason work in the CS world, where we do this cool communal office and all that. Hey, it can happen.
I don't really know where I'm going with tha train of thought, so I'll get back to where I need to be, which is that today I had this meeting setup with a company at Erlanger, to redo their website and to put their newsletter online (which is published by their PR whore, Mesh).
I was stoked, because it would have meant a decent chunk of change for me and Huffine, which would have been really nice given that we're a one income family right now, me and April I mean, not me and Huffine.
So I cruise into the meeting, which was going great, talking with the Docs n' folks, nailing down everything, and it looks like its really gonna be something great. I start asking about where their current site is hosted and who's been handling their e-mail etc. The doc responds that they've got a tech/networking guy that sets that up for him, and he steps outta the room to get him.
Well, then he comes back in and says "I'm sorry, but we've wasted your time." Turns out a few months back, one of the office lady peoples had gotten that kid to get some folks to redo the site, and they were currently on the job.
This is course, made the docs feel bad, Mesh feel angry, and me feel weird and just want to get outta there.
It's not a real big let-down, its just kinda bizarre and frustrating. I mean, the Lord will and is providing, and through my co-living-room-office-mate Jeff Orr I've managed to get a few other side jobs lined up, which will be nice.
So for now, I'm just cranking away on graphics n' stuff for the new genconsult, and cranking the No Depression by Uncle Tupelo. Heck, I think I'll go have a smoke. Life is good.

I gave a proposal to a lady to redesign her small ecommerce site and she turned me down because "her son has a friend who..." It happens to everyone, I think, although that's no consolation when it happens to you. Better luck next time!

Most people think our jobs are easy and haven't a clue what we do. Skippy with Dreamweaver or FrontPage usually comes in thinking he has skilz.... Trust me, better gigs will come from losing this one.
Healthcare will make you go gray anyway, without this nepitism (sp?) going around.

horner knows he kicks butt. at least all of us here do. and most in this city, whether they realize it or not. ben just wont admit that he knows he rocks.
the health care industry sucks. sorry to anyone who works there and loves it, but from a contractor's standpoint, it sucks. nepotism indeed.

On the other hand, it is making money. Whereas the dotcom industry...
