Post College & Football
The two don't have anything to do with each other, at least not in this post:
First, I remember reading this article by Marty Marquis when I was a sophmore at Covenant. If I ever had any delusions of being a writer, I wanted to be a writer like Marty. His piece only makes more sense now that I'm done at Covenant, though unlike Marty, I traded the larger audience for a smaller, derivative group of the former.
Secondly, my expectations of Auburn being the team to beat in the SEC this year have been thrown out the window. So here's to Georgia takin' the conference again.
Thirdly, Michigan, my team, is impressive this year. Their QB, John Navarre, is top in the league, and they've got a serious heisman contender in their RB, Chris Perry. I think we'll have a clearer picture of how things are gonna shape up in college football this year after next weekend, when the teams start playing other ranked teams and conference rivals. I do think though, that Michigan has a real shot at a bid for a National Championship game, probably against Oklahoma, if Michigan can smack down Ohio State (oh boy do I hate the Buckeyes).
And finally, in that same line, Michigan is playing Notre Dame next weekend, which is probably one of the greatest, if not the greatest rivalries in college football. Ya ya I know, Michigan vs. OSU is supposed to be the greatest Michigan vs. rivalry, but Notre Dame is just so much cooler than OSU. Anyways, now all my SEC friends: commence with the arguing.

Agreed on Auburn. At this point, I think we'll be lucky to beat Vanderbilt next weekend. I'm terribly disappointed, mostly because of the preseason hype that had me hoping for a SEC Championship and a premier bowl game. They won't do much at all if they can't figure out how to protect Cambell so he can get some points on the board.
One of the announcers last night mentioned that Tech's great freshman quarterback wanted to go to Auburn and was waiting on the call from them, but it never came. IDIOTS! That guy will be a Heisman contender by the time he's a senior.
Georgia probably will take the SEC, and the big surprise may be that Alabama (though ineligible for the championship) ends up with the best record in the SEC West. They had a great performance against Oklahoma last night.
As for rivalries, Auburn vs. Alabama is certainly one of the biggest rivalries ever.

I'll third the Auburn assesment, however, as disappointed as I was in Tennessee's performance yesterday, and although I am extremely biased, they will at least take the SEC East. Having said that, I am much more worried about our game in two weeks against Florida after watching them dominate Miami for most of last night's game. What a heartbreaker for them, though, huh? And to top it off, Brock Berlin, former Gator QB, actually had the nerve to turn to a group of Florida fans and mock them with that darn 'gator chomp' after Miami's win. Wow...

I remember that article. Didn't we all want to be a writer like Marty?

I am a die hard notre dame fan, who thinks they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. and even i think that michigan is going to beat them at the big house. i sure hope they don't though. and yes, while notre dame is cooler than osu, michigan is by no means nd's greatest rival (it may be that nd is michigan's as you say, but it's not the other way around). usc is a bigger rival of nd, and florida state is approaching that. go irish!

Poor Spooner. . .he's got to be hearbroken at AU's two losses.
FSU is back this year people. No more Wide Rights!

Whatever. A few years ago y'all from the state up north tried to tell us MSU is a bigger rivalry than the one with us. We know y'all can't stand the thought that you might lose 3 years in a row to the Buckeyes!
Go Bucks!

Right, and how are you supposed to do that now without Clarett?
Without him Chris Perry is hands-down the best RB in the Big 10, and probably all of college football.

The program is bigger than one problem child.
Our D is hands down the best in the conference, and Oklahoma notwithstanding, probably all of college football.
We'll both get tested this weekend. I actually hope we both win. Go Bucks and Go Big Ten!

i agree with dawn....The BUCKS RULE...we are gonna give Michigan such a whoooping this year even without Clarett...We may win ugly but we're not the one's with TWO losses and we still have a shot at the Sugar Bowl
F*** MICHIGAN

The Milwakee Bucks rule? Oh, wait, you're talking about that sad excuse for a football team the Buckeyes.
I will of course, enjoy watching you eat those words come 2 weeks from Saturday.
