Order of The Phoenix
Not too much to report, just been readin' the new Harry Potter book. It's dang good. Dang long too, 850 pages. I dig that though, more fun fun fun. Potter's definately a teenager now, punk and everything, and I'm glad Rowling's taking time to implictly teach them (And her readers) now NOT to be a teenage punk (whether by being a moody jerk, or an arrogant jerk). I think its some good good stuff.
She's got some interesting ideas of justice though. It's like, if your leaders are injustice or illegitimate, feel free to go to town raising hell for them. It's what they deserve. Dumbledoor n' crew of course don't approve of this type of behavior, which is good, and consistent, given that I've always thought Dumbledoor is to be the moral center of the stories, and no Harry Potter.
There's also some really good development along these lines in relation to Potter and his father, learning that his Dad wasn't always a good man, or perfect, and Harry's having to come to grips with this and attempt atonement for both his and his father's sins.
All in all, it's some good good stuff. Contrary to what some might think about the irrelavent nature of the books, my kids will read the Potter series someday.

Soon to be followed by the sixth Potter book, which is more of a road memoir: "Harry Potter Orders a Sandwich in Phoenix."

Or, "The Phoenix has Dessert, Then Settles His Tab." I'm looking forward to when my kids are interested in reading, so I can start them on Tolkien and Harry Potter and CS Lewis and, of course, Douglas Adams.
I think when Harry and his posse cause trouble it's just Rowling portraying youth, or "kids will be kids." The people they respect, like Dumbledore, the Weasleys, McGonagall, etc, set an example but the kids don't understand why they should follow it yet. If you're only doing something because you're told to do it, that reason wears thin before long, particularly if you're a know-it-all 15-year old very powerful wizard.
