I AM THE HAMMER!
So it's roughly 1139 in the game I'm playing, and I'm playing as the English. My current monarch is William the 2nd. What's interesting in the game is that they keep the monarch's very similar to the style and personalities of the actual historical monarch. This means that my William II is a viciously cruel king with little regard to the Church, which of course means the Pope hates me and gives me all sorts of flack, like telling me I can't invade Spain and demanding I send thousands of troops on a crusade.
But besides that, my general strategy has been to consolidate my control over the British Isles (taking Scotland was a pain), to sidestep France (with the exception of my estates in Normandy, Anjou, and Aquitaine) and to instead take the tiny kingdom's of Navarre & Aragonne, and then to fight the Spanish.
Well, I whooped up on Navarre, Aragonne, and Spain, until I realized that the reason why the Spanish were a mild pushover was the fact they had the Islamic empire invading from the South. So we both smashed Spain and began a fight for the Iberian Peninsula. Unfortunately, many of my strongest troops were trapped on the British mainland without the ships large enough to move a force as big as that, so I was stuck fighting the entire Islamic empire (Turks excepted) with whatever I could muster from my French holdings, Navarre, and Aragon.
Ya well it was a 10 year war and I beat the snot out of them. It of course all came down to one massive battle where my comitment to cavalry as a reserve force (a la Braveheart "ride round and take them from behind) won the day.
Ya, I'm a geek. This game is incredible.

Umm, I hate to break this to you, Josiah, but Charles Martel - Charles "The Hammer" - was French. Now granted, he drove back the Moors in 732, back when France was still part of Western Civilization, but still...

I know that Ryan. Hence my insistent on me NOT being French and still doing what Martel did, except, more thoroughly. So I'm like, the new Hammer or something, except its not real.
