Developments...Sortof

Not a whole lot to say. I was gonna go with Mesh this weekend to stay with his parents and do a little fishing. Things got screwed up and now I'm not going. Mesh and I were also gonna talk with some folk's from The Cambridge Study Center, about perhaps starting one in Chattavegas. This idea came up in the smallgroup Mesh, Ben, Lang, Andy, and I do every Tuesday.

Other more geeky news is that I stumbled across this really incredible game called Medieval Total War. It's set in Medieval Europe, Middle East, and Northern Africa. Basically you pick an existing country/civilation at the time and slowly build your kingdom, or don't, heck, it don't matter. What's cool is that they tried to stick very rigidly to the economics, politics, and culture of the time. Religion (and the Pope) play a big role, as does the Eastern Church (and Byzantium) and Islamic countries.

I started goofing around as England, which was Norman at the start of this game (late 11th century), and your starting monarch is William 2nd. You can grant titles have heirs, marry your children all over the place, fight Scottish highlanders, all sorts of little quirks. The music is incredible too. All of this is just in the "campaign" side of things, when it comes time to fight a battle it switches to a fully 3d map. Let me tellya, commanding troops is hard. There's all kindsof formations, and terrain is essential to use. There's nothing worse than getting your butt whipped because you accidentally left your spearmen guarding your flank in a loose engage at will formation, and having a buncha Holy Roman Empire cavalry roll up your lines.

Ya, I'm a geek.

Put my name on that list too if you don't mind. I've been wanting to play that for ages.

BTW Rye-dawg:

You should check out Rise of Nations at some point. Its from the guy who did Civ2 and Alpha Centauri. Basically its a combination of Age of Empires, Europa Universalis, and Alpha Centauri. Very cool stuff.
