California Love
I've got a massive amount of love from California, which is where I'm from. I do consider Chattanooga home now, but I'll never retract my assertion that, to quote Jim Morrison, "the West is the best." So anyways, I'm making a mix CD of nothing but songs about California. Man, Neil Young, Billy Bragg n' Wilco, and Led Zeppelin are currently on the mix. Anyways, I stumbled across this site which discusses the amazing amount of Canadian musicians that have written songs about California.
It's weird, but you may recall, a few posts ago, there was this Canadian ticked off at me for rippin' on Canada who asserted that Neil Young (currently on my deck) was from Canada, and then I remarked he now lives in Cali. But whatever....

Check out the song "California" by Phantom Planet. It's infectious.

I snagged that California song by Phantom Planet, largely because it was in all those dang commercials for the new Fox show "The OC." Which is actually where I got the idea for the California mix CD...

Semisonic's "California" was a fav of mine in high school. Still like it. The Beach Boy's "California Girls" is obvious, but crucial.

My take on Neil Young is the same as Skynyrd's: a Southern man don't need him around, anyhow.

Old man, look at my life: I'm a lot like you were.

He is Canadian...take it easy on him. He's still got about 10 years of livin' in California to recover...

Have you heard of The Thrills? Check them out on Kazaa - esp. Big Sur and Santa Cruz. Bill (who lived for a long time in North San Diego county)

Read This. Accordiing to this fellow, apparently radio stations in Canada are required to play a certain amount of "Canadian" content.

Ya its called CanCon...Canadian TV and radio stations are required to play canadian shows and bands so that we don't get smothered from the onslaught of the US media. If it wasn't for CanCon, you guys would never have gotten the chance to hear Alanis, BNL, The Tragically Hip along with many more, so be thankful for it.

Ddue, Alanis, BNL, and The Tragically HIp all utterly suck. So I'll continue not being thankful.

Is Semisonic's "California" the same as the new Phantom Planet one? It sounded like a deadset cover of Semisonic's version...
