Stay What You Are
So the friend of many, punk sage of some, Andrew McNeely had all his CD's stolen the other day, so I volunteered to DL a bunchof said CD's and burn them for him. Sure, it's some work, but it's also cool that it's exposing me to many of these cool punk bands I otherwise would never have gotten to listen to. I recomment one band thus far, Saves The Day. Their album Stay What You Are is very very cool, if you're into the softer west-coast punk-emo style, even though they're from New Jersey.
Pitchfork didn't like them, but after their lambasting of Francis Scott Key, the composer of my favorite hymn ("Lord, With Glowing Heart I'd Praise Thee") and our national anthem, I decided on the review side they're hipsters at best, wannabe-elitists at worst.

Jeezleypete, I think that guy would have us change national anthems every decade! What happened to tradition and symbolism?

Nothing more annoying that suburban white kids getting ticked off at the world justified by the injustices inflicted upon the downtrodden in the world, and then using that anger to fuel their cynicism.

With the possible exception of suburban white kids getting pissed at the suburban white kids getting ticked off at the world... It's gonna be a rumble of suburban white kids, the way things are going.

Yeah, after being initially attracted by the amount of good music discussed at PitchFork, I linked to their site. Then I actually spent some time there and found that they're exactly as you've described. No link for you.

As someone whoe loves pitchfork, I think elitist critics are great. They are really easy to figure out, so they are really easy to translate for finding out if you would like an album. They're kind of the opposite of a truly awful critic. For instance if SP, who is a critic with truly awful taste, said, "I totally dig Saves the Day, they Rawk!" I could be fairly sure that I would hate it since I totally disagree with every other band SP likes. By the same token, Pitchfork likes so few things, I can be fairly sure that the thinks they truly love, those things they give a 10.0, are true gems.
Non-elitist critics are too hard to really pull anything from, because it's too hard to interpolate their tast to yours.

speaking of no links for certain sites rye-dawg and matt...why is there no link to my site from each of yours? ive linked to both of yours and i feel slighted because i thought i was a friend. even gosey, who doesnt know me that well has a link to my site. so this hurts, guys. this really hurts.

Sure sure Matt, they may sometimes recommend a great band, but you've still gotta put up with 60% of the time them ditching a good band, and then all of the time being assholes.
