And Another...
Covenant College used to have this annoying core freshman class called Self in Society. It was a sad attempt at explaining a Reformed (in this instance, neo-kuyperian) approach to life and culture.
My teacher was Mike Hardie, the Director of Experiential Studies. What that job title entailed I could never quite tell, but for years I figured it always involved lots of cute girls and trips to Slovakia. Then I needed to graduate, and Mike became the gatekeeper, the final hurdle in my grasp for a degree; for to Mike all Covenant students must submit their cross-cultural report, a graduation requirement.
Mike now has a blog, and it's called A Jeep In Summer, which, in my opinion, is a freaking great name for a blog. He's number 19 in the Chattablog crew.

Hmm. "...cute girls and trips to Slovakia..." I believe I should take your comments as compliments with a rating of at least "back-handed." I'm going to run the risk of feminine ire and say that I don't put attractiveness requirements on my friends. There are, however, IQ and humour minimums. The Self in Society class we can discuss later. But I think that we need to acknowledge that it might have been doomed from the beginning--a freshman core class at 8 am? Give me a break. I haven't taught anything since. Except the 1st and 2nd grade Sunday school class at RP when the regular teacher is out of town.

MIKE!
My post was a comment on my lack of knowledge about your job, not about what exactly your job entails. I'm sorry. Nor did I have any problems with the Self in Society class in terms of you teaching it at all! Like you said, it was a doomed project and that was what I was referencing.
Oh ya... I remember it was at 8 in the morning, and it was horrible. I think I missed a whole buncha classes and you were supposed to fail me or something, but you didn't. I owe you for that one.

Josiah, really, no offense taken. I think I have some sense of your sense of humor. It is slightly Catacombian in nature, with a basis in reality and knowledge and ability to make connections. Oh yeah, there might be a touch of sarcasm in there too. All good things.
Regarding Self in Sociey--it was highly obvious that you were on top of everything we were talking about in class. That's why you didn't fail. Aren't we all glad? Otherwise we would have to quote Gollum. "We hates the Director of Experiential Studies."

Thanx Mike. I was a retard in Self & Society though, it was weird though 'cause I get to this "Reformed" college and they've got me readin' The Stone Lectures which I read in the 8th grade...but I was an arrogant prick...not that I'm not now. I'd like to think I've come some ways...
