A "for now" job
I have finally a landed what I call a "for now" job. I am doing it "for now - until I find something better."
There is this new Mexican Grill called Qdoba's, opening in a couple weeks on Market Street, across from Panera's. Now, I am fundamentally against the idea of chain restaurants in Chattanooga. There are just too many cool, unique places to eat - why bother with the chains? However, I am NOT fundamentally agains the idea of being able to make a paycheck. So, I am starting when it opens in about two weeks.
Anyway, the owner seemed really cool and very enthusiastic about his restaurant. He went on and on about tacos for quite awhile!

Chattanooga is really lucky to have so many unique, locally owned restaurants. Sadder than the opening of new chain restaurants downtown is the fact that they're putting a Starbucks in the Read House. Gag me. Hopefully it will just pull tourists and not detract from Greyfriar's or Rembrandt's. That would be a tragedy.

The tailors aren't the only ones getting Starbucked. There's a lovely little baber shop being forced to move out after something like 20 years in the same locale. Depressing. Although, in all fairness, it may be good for the economy in ways that evenually benefit local establishments.

Yeah, I've read articles in the past alluding to the fact that independent coffeehouses sometimes actually prosper more when Starbucks moves in to town, but I'm not completely convinced. And I suppose any new business in town does some good for the economy as a whole.
