So I'm in the process of trying to nail down a decent place to have chattablogs hosted. I was thinking about trying to hook something up here, but that was taking awhile, then I was thinking about trying to stash something over here, but then I finally settled here. At this new server/hosting place, I'll be able to do a full chattablogs domain, with a message board, news, phpNUKE and all the other goodies I want to have for current and future chattabloggers. Oh, and folks might be able to get e-mails, like, roe@chattablogs.com or something like that. I'll keep y'all updated. I'll be working on getting everything setup, like installing Movabletype, over the weekend.
April and I watched the Godfather last nice, since she's never seen it, and well, it's one of the damn finest movies every made. She liked it of course, thought it was incredible, and noticed a buncha things I never would have. Being married is like having another set of eyes sometimes. But onward, I've got to say, the final scene when Michael lies to Kate about not having anything to do with Carl's murder, that's got to be the great cinematic lie in history. I mean, it's so bloody convincing. Heck, it's so convincing, you almost take it as fact he didnt' have anythin to do with Carl's murder when you know in fact the opposite is true. Pacino is an incredible actor.
Anyways, April is off checking out a job today that might provide full benefits for us both (score!), so if y'all can remember to pray for her with that, hopefully maybe tonight we'll get to watch the second Godfather.

There was a good piece in the NYTimes a couple weeks ago (by Holden, I think, but maybe by Scott) on how Pacino's early briliance stemmed from his control. He always underacted, provided just carefully modulated hints on Michael's inner turmoil, and drew us in before the massive explosion of emotion. ("I want them alive, Rocco! ALIVE!") This in sharp contrast to the current Pacino who, while still a winning actor, just emotes from reel one to the credits. There's none of the hypnosis leading us into the inferno, if that isn't to pretentious a way to put it.

Your blog seems to have credited my last post to "mes." This is merely a thinly disguised pseudonym, I assure you.

Actually Mesh, that's something April picked up on last night also.
She was remarking how Pacino's decent into the mafia (from the golden boy war hero) is so subtle, almost to the point of not being able to tell an actual decent/transformation is occuring.
I find it incredible how Pacino's one big show of emotion in the first movie is when he yells at Kate in the final scene when she kept asking him about Carl's death. You know, the "don't ask me about my business." Up until that point, Pacino played the role completely deadpan, with the exception of a subtle smile at Appolonia or a little bit of anger at the corrupt police captain when the guards were removed from the hospital who were guarding his father.
It's just so damn impressive. I've got to say though, if there's one role that I feel merges the early Pacino quite, cold, deadpan acting with his later more emotive aspects, it's his role in Heat, which I think was a great Mann film (i think his best) and a damn fine job by Pacino.
