Comments: 50 things that just hit me that i'd like to say to a girl someday, in no particular order:

A damn good list.

Posted by daniel silliman at February 10, 2004 04:21 PM

thanks, daniel. you're a damn nice guy for saying so. good to know you're a real person--i've seen that silliman name like graffiti the last few years.

oh that one is so bad.
(i HAVE a holly hobby pillow.)

Posted by joy at February 10, 2004 05:46 PM

I loved this! It was such a welcome read after a rough day at work. I help a sweet woman with Alzheimers and some days are sad. Thanks for making me smile and then laugh and warming the world a little.

I think the goats are guilty.

I have a holly hobby pillow too.

You know, the more I read your stuff, the more I have this urge to get on a plane to Spokane, airport code GEG, and hang out with you. Of course, we would have to go visit my uncle the potter and my aunt the pastor in Spirit Lake, ID. And I would have to ride the carousel. And walk through the Japanese garden in Manito park. All Spokane rituals for me.

And of course, I want to say all those things to KT. But I can't yet. Maybe in two weeks. So thanks for the rush of hope, and [insert favorite expletive here] you for having all the good ideas first!

jeep,

i welcome company. you're welcome anytime (with significant others). and, all, i am still sleeping on my brown holly hobby pillow from 1977. the foam is mostly mote now, but it's very form-fitting.

Posted by jeremy at February 10, 2004 10:11 PM

This is one of the top ten best things I've ever read on Chattablogs. With a bullet.

Posted by mesh at February 10, 2004 10:34 PM

Wow. Thanks, Mesh. I'm glad Josiah and Co. let me in. And totally unrelated to that thing where you ask someone a question so he'll ask it back, I'm enjoying my daily check-in at your place.

Take care,
jeremy

Mac / JH,

You still got your stuff don't you...Enjoyed the posts. So nice to read someone with literary skills once in a while.
I just started reading this stuff this morning -- before this I was only getting hearsay reports about you. It is good to be able to check up on you and see what you are up to.

If you are ever near Louisville (Lewisville -- as it's pronounced), come by and look us up.
If you ask anyone they'll know where to find us.

Take care!

Andy

hey andy, send me those .mp3s of your music, man. I need some more of your tunes.

Posted by barlow at February 11, 2004 06:58 AM

ok, i'll have to convert them, some of them are in .wav format -- and 35MB.... I'll shrink em down, and put them up there for you.

your list has officially bumped "25 things not to say when you find out you've been dating fred savage" off of my top 10 list of favorite lists list.

Posted by judah at February 11, 2004 11:37 AM

my favorite was "you taste like clouds."

one i would add would be "lets go run barefoot in the rain."

Posted by hill at February 11, 2004 12:07 PM

the question is, judah, who wouldn't want to date fred savage, except, of course, for a post-high school winnie cooper? maybe she realized that kevin arnold wasn't the kind of guy who was de-shod himself during a rain.

Posted by jeremy at February 11, 2004 12:44 PM

ok... how about some things you would like to one day HEAR from a girl??
(i'm selfish like that.)

Posted by adam at February 11, 2004 01:18 PM

really, that list WAS what i want to hear from a girl, but i wanted to trick myself into thinking that i'm not so idealistic. at this point, i have a pretty small list for things i'd like to hear, since being able to sit quietly and not have to say anything implies all of that other stuff. how's that for evasion?

Posted by jeremy at February 11, 2004 01:24 PM

Jeremy, are you any relation to Josiah Huggins?

Posted by jeep at February 11, 2004 02:13 PM

not that i'm aware of, unless he's my play cousin

Posted by jeremy at February 11, 2004 03:19 PM

did you mention winnie cooper?

Posted by shull at February 12, 2004 08:00 AM

very nice list.

silliman is like graffiti, and he's going on tour

“i can taste your lipstick on the filter.” wait, why are you wearing lipstick? --is my favorite

Posted by luke at February 12, 2004 08:01 AM

luke,

that line about the lipstick on the filter is from Death Cab for Cutie's song "Title Track." i recommend it.

Posted by jeremy at February 12, 2004 11:00 AM

Any other Death Cab for Cutie you'd recommend...haven't heard "Title Track" yet, but like some of their other stuff a lot. Also, no Holly Hobby pillow here, but a well-used/drooled on quilt, at least.

Posted by Sarah at February 19, 2004 01:19 AM

get them all. and the postal service.

Posted by jeremy at February 19, 2004 08:27 AM

What's a Holly Hobby pillow...? Winnie Cooper's name makes me laugh a lot, it sounds like minnie cooper. It's fun to be a simpleton sometimes

Posted by robbie at March 3, 2004 03:52 PM

you play the part well, friend. sorry, these are american things. you wouldn't understand. how's the weather in belfast?

Posted by jeremy at March 3, 2004 04:14 PM

I try. We had unexpected snow last week. Now it's just cold. Baltic in fact.

Posted by robbie at March 4, 2004 06:16 PM

I'm American...what's a Holly Hobby pillow? =)

Posted by marchant at March 26, 2004 06:21 PM

wow...just wow.

"i can't believe god lets me hang out with you."

love it all - every bit. i'd start smoking again to hear that line about the lipstick...'course i'd have to start wearing lipstick...for a minute.

Posted by stephanie at June 11, 2004 02:32 PM

thank you, stephanie. and for the over-kind words on your blog, thank you. words i never don't need to hear.

Posted by jeremy at June 11, 2004 03:21 PM

I am sure this is an old post..but I have just recently found the richness of your postings. Somehow Jeremy, with words and the passion that is behind those words you manage to inspire me to love Christ more. And within that love of the creator it has become a little easier to love his broken creations even if all I want to do is flick them off. Also, I hear you know my best friend or should I introduce her via her mom! Sember Larose..Margie Haacks daughters (one of.) You are sort of like an urban legend now, to me. Well, I will take up no more space but also, I am planning (lord willing)to leave for Chennai India this comming June (05) So, your travel blogs are proving quite useful.

a girl whose favorite colors are brown and blue.

Posted by karla at August 7, 2004 10:47 AM

Karla, any friend of the haack progeny is friend of mine. thanks for reading and for encouraging words. eat up the brown and blue, and do tell shaun and sember hello for me. and stop in any time.

Posted by jeremy at August 7, 2004 12:41 PM

you're just using me to get to my mom.

Posted by Sember and Shaun at August 15, 2004 07:24 PM

or maybe it's vice versa . . . hello!
