Dreaming ...

I've been fighting sickness for the past couple weeks. It just seems to be a cold, not the killer flu that's been bringing the country to its knees. As a result, I've been getting more sleep than usual, only because I have to, and one upshot of this is that I've started remembering dreams when I wake up. Although not the kind of thing you generally lay out for the public (as if anyone other than my friends and family visits anyhow), there's one I found fascinating, so I'll share ...

I'm playing a familiar computer game, and am suddenly transported into the game world, in a cave of sorts. I am fully aware that I am in a dream. I wander around the fantasy landscape for awhile, undisturbed by any of the native creatures, and upon exiting the cave I step into a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. In the middle of the lush green meadow is a stadium. I enter, and find myself in the midst of a district convention. Thanks to the dream machinery, I am now appropriately dressed.

A talk is in progress, and I can actually hear the words and see the speaker, but I don't recognize him. As I walk around looking for a seat, I see a friend from Bethel. Zach was never a close buddy, but you know how it is with dreams; the unexpected character selection is half the fun. He's taking notes, like the good student he is. I sit down in the seat to his right, between him and an older sister. I then proceed to explain to Zach that as real as this all seems, the whole thing is actually just my dream. I explain how I got there from the computer game, and he declares me crazy. I turn and look closely at the older sister, who appears to be ignoring us, and marvel at the intricate detail of her thinning hair, noting to myself that this is not the kind of thing that one normally remembers in dreams. Then I woke up.

Seriously, this was all in the dream. Upon waking, the whole thing was crystal clear. Two days later, it still is. How curious.

what a theocratic dreamer. you should have gone out in service in your dream. you could have counted your time in your sleep.

Oddly enough, I did last night, sort of. I dreamed that I was among a select group of people who were informed that the end was a month away. I experienced considerable frustration as my urgency increased and my listeners all thought I was crazy. It left me feeling that I wished I didn't know. Honestly, this sort of thing is really rare.
