Statemint? Ahhhh, Statemint!!
Here goes. My first attempt at an artist's statement...
It is hard to place into words how one views the world and nearing the impossible to provide rational and concrete reasons behind the construction of one’s unique interpretation of reality. It is as if asking yourself, why do I write with my right hand instead of my left? Is it a product of biological wiring or simply childhood preference? Pen or pencil, at times it is as if I have no choice in seeing things in the way I do, and feel that the only definitive quality of this seeing is the decision of acceptance of the sight itself.
In my work I attempt to integrate my subjects through this vision in a simultaneous drawing out of chosen characteristics and a displacement of those characteristics into a light under which the subject becomes transformed and renewed. While the deconstruction of a object can go so far
as to destroy its essence, it is the subject’s essence that lends it characteristics, and explains its existance in our own visual configuration. Working within and around, beside and underneath, and in every direction possible, I attempt to grasp each object’s innumerable dispositions while avoiding the disintegration of its raison d’être.
Whether I am creating something new or seeing what is potentially there, is a question I am unable to answer, but it is the magenetic and oftentimes serendipitous result that drives me through the physical processes towards realization.
The elemental characteristics of the subjects I work with are interwoven throughout these pieces, but it is the construction
and simultaneous destruction of parts that send these subjects asunder, yet returns them to undeniably manifest into a state of restoration.
good god im scared about this!
