On Tuesday, I did a little philosophy journal article searching at work, found some useful articles, and took some time to make copies. I dutifully took my Northwestern University Wildcard (part photo/staff ID, part library card, part cash card), put $5 on it, and started making copies.
Like an idiot, I left my card in the card feeder, and went on my merry way. Next day I discovered, when I tried to get in the library, that I didn't have it. I immediately went to where I knew I'd last left it. Gone, gone, gone. I was bummed. Sure I'd lost about $4 on it, but it was going to cost me $15 to replace it.
I was torn. Do I wait to see if it turns up? I figured the $4.49 I last remember being on it was gone. But do I risk somebody checking out all sorts of books from the library and never returning them? I decided to bite the bullet and pay for the replacement card.
And whaddaya know? Someone turned in the old one. I picked it up today with $3.99 left on it. If someone used it, at best they took me for fifty cents. And no books were charged to it.
So, I got my $3.99 back, but am out $15 for the replacement card. Ah well.
I also can't find my prayer rope. It had been in my coat pocket last I knew. But it wasn't there when I wanted to use it on the way to the busstop. It may be on the icon corner at home.
Posted by Clifton at May 5, 2005 11:18 AM | TrackBackI just bought a wireless router for the apratment.
It arrived UPS on Tuesday.
I was leaving they gym and going to Jewel to get Mom Day cards for mom and grandma. I go to the self-check out, and set the router box on the shelf so I can use both hands to do the check out. I go on my merry way to the bus stop. The bus arrives and I feel naked. Backpack...check. Cards for mom day...check. What is missing...shoot! The router box is on the shelf at Jewel. I run back to the store (overactive imagination has the place being evacuated since the box was a plain brown box.) Get to the store...luckily they were not emptyig the place. Check with customer service...nope no one has turned it in. Go to the self-check out...Huzzah...it is still there. Needless to say, I was so proud of the fact I rememebered mom day cards I forgot totally about the router.
I used to lose my rosary all the time. Since making a pilgrimage East, I've worn my prayer rope around my wrist. It's always there when I need it, and moreover, it makes a great conversation starter that can lead into opportunities for evangelism.
